Since 1918

Local, free-range meat straight from the farm

The farm is home to approximately 800 breeding ewes, predominantly Suffolks and Mules with a smattering of Texels and Jacobs.  Lambing takes place in late January and throughout March in our lambing sheds and under 24-hour supervision.

The majority of our cattle are Angus and British Blues.  We have two bulls - the magnificent Angus and the very large Micro.
The cows calve throughout the spring and into the summer.

We also have a few infamous animals!  Our two llamas, Twix and Malcolm, who only have one duty to perform and that is to keep the foxes away from the lambs, a type of organic pest control.  They fail dismally and spend their days mooching around the fields and occasionally round Frittenden.  Our two spoilt alpacas - Mitzi and Betty - are purely pets, as is our Kune Kune pig, Belle.

Loving where

we Live!

For over 100 years, the Hope family have farmed the land at Cherry Tree, nestled down a quiet lane in the beautiful Wealden village of Frittenden. A lot of time and resources are spent preserving and maintaining numerous iconic buildings.

The Importance

of Local

The focus is on locally-raised, free-range meat that hasn't been transported any further than absolutely necessary - good for the environment and the animals, and great for the quality of the produce that comes off the farm.

Rest assured

Farming practices have moved on significantly since Paul's Grandfather first settled here, but the highest standards of land management and animal welfare are still a top priority for the family. This is demonstrated by many years' of Farm Assured accreditation.

More than 100 years in the family

Paul Hope is the third generation of the family who has been fortunate enough to farm at Cherry Tree.  Whilst farming practices have changed significantly since his Grandfather started here in 1918, the Hope family have always maintained the highest standards in animal welfare and land management.

We dedicate our pasture entirely to low intensity grazing and the production of winter feed, whilst maintaining the many areas of woodland, ponds and natural habitats that we share with an abundance of local wildlife.  The river Beult meanders through the farm, defining the landscape and enriching the pasture.

These standards are upheld throughout the production process.  Where possible we select suppliers and contractors who are local, not only to keep food miles to a minimum but also to support local businesses.
